URBAN NATURE/HEALING PLACES
Artist StatementNature is my starting place. My mixed media collages reflect my deep-looking at the natural world. Stones, seeds, and leaves collected while wandering through city parks and urban woodlands suggests starting points. Found and repurposed papers provide the raw materials. My current work explores the idea of “Urban Nature” by focusing on how Nature persists - and even thrives - in the built environment. Inspired by the parks, ponds, urban forests and community gardens of the Bronx where I live, my collages affirm how contact with Nature can help heal the stressors of urban life. As an art exhibition within the healthcare environment, “Urban Nature/Healing Places” brings together the power of Nature and Art to enhance the healing and overall well-being of patients, caregivers, healthcare provides and visitors. I am honored to share my artwork with the Montefiore medical community.
