The Queen City Art Gallery presents

HOLDING ON AND REACHING OUT
The Brooklyn Quilters Guild

Our Story

The members of The Brooklyn Quilters Guild are a diverse group that shares a strong common thread -- an interest in quilt making, and all the art, color, design, and fabric that it encompasses. We may come from many backgrounds, but this thread gathers us together.

The idea for the theme of this show came from thinking about the way touch and care are such integral aspects of healthcare and quilt-making. Our members interpreted the theme in a variety of ways highlighting connections, needs, and how we interact with our communities.

History of the Brooklyn Quilters Guild

The Brooklyn Quilters Guild began in 1993 when Viviane Arzoumanian and Sandy McGill organized the first meeting, held in the back room of The Sewing Circle, a long gone quilting shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn.  A room full of quilters responded to their outreach. The quilters eagerly supported the establishment of a guild based in Brooklyn.  Some of the goals of the new guild were to foster an ongoing exchange of information and ideas, learn new techniques through workshops and lectures, and to promote quilting as an art form.  The guild began having monthly meetings on the third Saturday of the month, which continue to today.  The first quilt show was a year later, followed by shows every two years until the present. www.quiltbrooklyn.org                                                                    #brooklyn_quilters_guild
